Origami Remora v2

Finish the tail area with 11.25 Remora use their suction-cup-like dorsal fin to hitchhike on larger sea creatures like rays, sharks, and whales.

Origami Lamprey

Lampreys are fish with primitive features. Together with hagfish, they are the last surviving jawless vertebrate. These creatures don't exist in my home country, so I've only known their existence from encyclopedia back in elementary school. Their somewhat scary circular mouth is full of teeth and will surely etch into memory. 

Origami Halibut

The biggest kind of flat fish, which is a group of fishes whose eyes are located on one side of its body. They lie on the sea floor with "eyed side" on top, camouflaged among the sands, and look around to ambush prey.

Origami Ghost Knifefish

Ghost knifefish is common in aquarium trade. First time seeing it was on public aquarium in my hometown around 15 years ago. The way they move omni-directionally by undulating their anal fin captivated me. Image source: fisharoma This model was designed for Origami-Dan design contest, whose theme was "a design that can be folded in 15 minutes using 15 cm kami". I had sudden idea to design it while having dinner, and then proceeded to finish it that night.

Daily Challenge Part 4 (21-27)

Here we go with the prompt #21 until #27. #21 Ornament: Fleur de Lis The requirement of 3 large flaps and 3 smaller flaps is ideal for bird base with one corner split. The challenge here is to make the curved structure on the sides. I have no other idea apart from doing the loose reverse fold.  #22 Teeth: Helicoprion Helicoprion is a prehistoric shark with teeth on lower jaw that looks like circular saw. I don't have experience on folding teeth apart from Takagi's mosasaurus which used a long flap that gets pleated. To follow that idea, I reserved the entire 1/4 corner for lower jaw. Naturally the upper jaw can be put in the middle to make a bird-base like structure: The remaining corners somehow should form body, tail, and other fins. It doesn't matter which corner should be used for the tail, the body length will the same since any remaining corners will yield the largest possible circle. Daily Challenge Part 1 (0-6)

I joined another origami Discord server beside Origami-Dan, and it is called Origami Design School. I will just call it DS for short. It focuses on design aspect and less about fold, material, and other stuff. One of the main activity in DS will be daily design challenge. Each day there will be a prompt, typically a word, and we have to design something that has something to do with it. For example, if the prompt is "fish" then we need to design & fold any kind of fish. It has to be new design, and delivered within the day.

Origami Remora

This is the fish that sticks on larger creatures, like sharks. The funny thing is the suction disc is actually a highly modified dorsal fin. Design The defining feature of this creature is of course the suction disc, along with slender body with some fins at the end. To make the suction disc, I would use a long flap and pleat it. The challenge for me was the hind section which has adipose fin (top), anal fin (bottom), and caudal fin (tail). I figured out that the anal fin can be made using a sunken sawhorse molecule: The paper that got pushed up is suitable for this fin. I can place this part near the end of diagonal and the excess paper in the corner can be used for caudal fin. For the adipose fin, I thought to somehow use the excess paper in the edge. Therefore I didn't plan it in the crease pattern. For the remainder of this post, I will omit the shaping creases shown in the picture above. Moving to the head part.
